October Deer Hunting

It’s week 3 for Joe Sir in Iowa, and even with the effects of the October lull still looming, Joe and the Hallowed Ground Outdoors team make the most out of a few hunts while October deer hunting . Again, the October lull can vary so much across properties that it is better to gain knowledge of what to look for rather than hunt in the wrong spots or worse yet waste precious “vacation” or “sick” days. Educate yourself on the October lull by reading Hunting the October Lull | Tips and Strategies for Whitetails on the Muddy Blog.

As far as Joe Sir’s hunts go, he found success! In this episode of Hallowed Ground Outdoors on Muddy TV, Joe Sir hunts an October cold front…one of the few events that could break the slow movement of the October lull. Joe is hunting in a stand overlooking a giant hardwood section of timber, complete with plenty of oaks and acorns. Thursday, October 20th was the day that weather, timing, scrapes, and movement all came together for a successful hunt for Joe.

A buck steps into the section of hardwoods within hearing distance of Joe’s hang-on tree stand, allowing Joe to use a grunt call and snort wheeze. The combo drew the buck into the final 20 yards needed to make a shot. Joe’s arrow hit its mark and another giant buck of October deer hunting goes down in the books!
